The development of low carbon transport systems will be a long term process as technologies and markets evolve.

Future Transport Systems develops strategies to take advantage of emerging low carbon transport opportunities such as electric vehicle deployment, infrastructure location and operation, supply chain and technology development, and user engagement.

We have strong national and international links with organisations involved in pioneering the introduction of electromobility systems as well as specialist in house expertise. This access to knowledge and experience enables us to apply the most up to date thinking to strategic development work.

Clients include public sector parties such as Regional Development Agencies and Councils as well as vehicle and infrastructure manufacturers, electricity suppliers, distribution network operators, retailers etc. For these clients we develop focussed implementable strategies.

Projects undertaken include:

  • The development of a strategic regional electric vehicle charging infrastructure roll-out plan for an English region.
  • Strategic technology evaluations including various transport focused hydrogen technologies, electric vehicle charging systems and the potential for linking renewable generation and energy storage technologies with electric vehicle infrastructure.
  • The development and comparison of electric vehicle charging infrastructure operating models.
  • The development of an integrated strategy to capitalise on the opportunities afforded by electric vehicles and infrastructure.
  • The preparation of a successful £11m bid to the Technology Strategy Board to accelerate the development and deployment of electric vehicles in the North East of England and the subsequent project management of this programme.
